About UKMT

This page contains an introduction to UKMT and detailed information about the impact of UKMT events.

I. Introduction to UKMT

The United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity established in 1996. Its primary purpose is to improve mathematics education in the UK, from children to teenagers, by providing a wide range of national-level mathematics competitions and activities for students aged 11-18 across the country. The BMO competition within the UKMT serves as a pathway for British students to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiads.

The UKMT organizes three levels of competitions: Junior Mathematical Challenge (JMC), Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC), and Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC). Chinese students tend to participate more in the SMC (Senior Mathematical Challenge).

About UKMT

The UKMT was founded to promote mathematics education for children and teenagers, but its goals are not solely achieved through organizing and hosting mathematics competitions.

Governance

The Board of Directors comprises mathematicians and mathematics enthusiasts, bringing diverse backgrounds and expertise to ensure we do our job well. The Chairman of UKMT is Dr. Geoff Smith, MBE.

UKMT Team

The charity is managed by a board of directors, providing mathematical challenges and enriching projects through volunteers, supported by a small team of staff.

The board of directors and administration maintains control and bears legal responsibility. The board sets the organization's long-term strategic direction and delegates tasks to board committees and the managing director. The general manager can delegate tasks to the executive committee and staff. UKMT operates in accordance with its articles of association.

The UK Mathematics Trust is a limited liability company (No. 3271283) and a charity registered in England and Wales (No. 1059125). Our VAT number is 214255439.
